Irvine Nature Center’s Outdoor Classroom Provides Sensory Learning

The co-founder and Vice President of Quotient, Inc., Clark Lare is responsible for guiding the company’s growth strategy and strategic partnerships. He has been leading this aspect of the company for more than 15 years and played a key role in developing the company’s client base. In an effort to give back to the community, Clark Lare and Quotient donate to a number of organizations, including the Irvine Nature Center.

Since 1975, the Irvine Nature Center has been committed to providing quality environmental education for adults and children. Located on 116 acres of meadows, woodlands, and wetlands, the center is home to several different facilities, including the Outdoor Classroom. The Irvine Nature Center’s Outdoor Classroom took a full year to build and provides students with a rich backdrop for learning. Featuring everything from tree stump steps to natural slate easels, the space is a great place for families to play while also learning about things as diverse as physical coordination and art.

Since Irvine’s Outdoor Classroom was built and is maintained with the help of membership dues, only members are allowed to use the space. All learning areas in the classroom were carefully planned to help children of various ages meet federal and state curriculum standards. This allows families and children to learn at the classroom without a teacher or naturalist present. However, the Outdoor Classroom also features directed learning activities alongside its self-directed activities.
